what color combination is better for an evening/cocktail style dress? red and white, or black and white? why?

Black and white is timeless and classic, as long as it’s not overly done. You can end up looking like a prisoner. On the other hand, with red and white you’re probably going to look like a candy cane. My suggestion: Stick with solid black, red, or white and accent with gold, silver, copper, etc.
