You can look on online department stores like Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus in the kids section. They usually have decently priced dresses for kids. Check out Ralph Lauren's website. The kids stuff isn't too expensive, and there's always stuff on sale. I took one of these classes once, and she doesn't need a really fancy dress, just something that's appropriate and comfortable.

I am wondering what colour lipstick to wear with a blood red halter knee-length cocktail dress (with a little bit of black detail). I am going to wear my hair in a bun with black shoes and bag. Will I look like an idiot if my lipstick is the same colour as my dress? My normal brown lippie looks horrible with it.
Your lipstick should go with your own coloring not necessarily the dress. It should compliment your skin tone and teeth. Try some of the new fall shades that have come out. If your coloring tends to be on the more yellower warmer side you can try peaches and corals. If your coloring tends to be on the pinker cooler side try roses, reds and burgundys. I agree stay away from the browns this time. If you have a Sephora or an Ulta cosmetic store near you, you can try on different shades til your hearts content. Have fun and Enjoy!

there's also a store called body central which is kind of like mandee's if you know what that is. those places have cheap stuff too.

If you're looking for something a bit cheaper, try a department store. An hour or two at the Bay, Winners or Sears and you might find something you like.
If you're willing to spend a bit more, try going to Eatons' or Vaughan Mills. It's a bit pricier with the designer stores but it might be worth it. Look out for this store: http://www.bcbg.com/home/index.jsp BCBG has tons of cute cocktail dresses for $100 (or sometimes less!).
If you're looking for speciality, go to Bayview Village Shopping Centre. They have LOTS of speciality dress stores but most are bit expensive.
